Our diverse mix of festival speakers reflects personal and professional perspectives on living, working and thriving in the city’s changing culture.

LEMN SISSAY

International prize-winning poet, playwright, broadcaster and speaker Lemn Sissay once said, “If Manchester was a city where my dream could come true, it's also a city where its own dreams have come true.” Lemn originally moved to Manchester aged 18 and released his first book of poetry at 21. He is a former chancellor of Manchester University.

ANDY SPINOZA

Author and journalist Andy Spinoza came to Manchester from London in his late teens. He reported from the frontlines of the city's exploding music scene for the national music and style press and founded City Life magazine in 1983. Last year, Andy published his book Manchester Unspun, about the city's transformation.

BEN DAVIES

Chartered psychologist Ben Davies is a mentor for Chimp Management, coaching Olympic athletes and working in the corporate sector to help individuals and teams achieve their goals. Ben specialises in self-development through mind management, working in high-performance cultures and environments.

The Pattern Festival panel brings together individuals with their own areas of expertise and insight to discuss the question: Who Owns the City?

Shannon is co-founder of Picture This, promoting health and happiness through responsible residential development and low-carbon designed homes.

Jonathan is a specialist Manchester tour guide, author and the editor of the Confidentials website.

Founder of FoodSync and Fork, Jemma is pioneering new strategies to put food at the centre of placemaking.

GRICE

As Salford’s Director of Culture, Darren is an ambassador and advocate for cultural inclusivity, meeting the needs of residents, visitors and businesses.

Using a rapid 20-slides in a 20-second storytelling format, Pattern members will give a series of thought-provoking micro-presentations.

MUSIC

Our festival would be incomplete without music. We’re putting on a variety of sounds to set the scene throughout the day, including a string quartet and a DJ.

FOOD

Food at the festival comes from Open Kitchen, Manchester’s leading sustainable catering company. Open Kitchen works exclusively with local, sustainable and ethical suppliers to help us all support local communities and lower our carbon footprint while tucking into their delicious food.
